Newest Jets acquisition Ed Reed can't help secondary in blowout loss to Bills
Ed Reed gives the thumbs up pregame but probably feels the opposite after the loss.

ORCHARD PARK The last Jet to make his way off the field, up the ramp and into the postgame locker room was safety Ed Reed, the newest member of a middling unit. He sat at his stall in the back, next to cornerback Antonio Cromartie and across from cornerback Kyle Wilson. In dissecting their 37 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, they reviewed responsibilities on various schemes, talking about curls and flats, and what needed to be improved.
The addition of Reed during the week was billed as a boost for a secondary that has been beaten by deep balls throughout the season, but the secondary proved a weak link again on Sunday.
Reed, the longtime Ravens legend who was cut by the Texans last week, acknowledged that his comfort level with Rex Ryan's defense was a key reason for his signing with the Jets and reuniting with Ryan. He joined the Jets with fresh legs, and was told to go as long as he could, knowing that safety Jaiquawn Jarrett was available on the sideline to give him a breather.

Reed blitzed on what turned into a touchdown and patrolled different sides of the field when necessary. Manuel quick snapped the ball and threw deep along the sideline to Marquise Goodwin that left both Reed and Cromartie shaking their heads.
Reed was playing in the middle of the field Wholesale NFL Jerseys when he saw the ball sail deep toward the end zone. He believed the wind, which was carrying the ball most of the day, had subsided on that play.
"I was so pissed with myself," Cromartie said. "Honestly, I looked back at the ball too long. I felt like I drifted away and it slowed me down. He got up on top, and he just made a play on the ball. I know I can make that play. It's just me doing the little things, me getting my head back around and knowing where the receiver is."

Reed's communication was not restricted to the secondary. After most of his teammates had emptied out of the locker room, quarterback Geno Smith Wholesale Jerseys remained at his stall. Reed pulled on his long coat and donned a Yankees hat.
"Ignore the noise," Reed told the rookie. Graham, his assigned wideout, on one play to surrender a TD and Cromartie watched Goodwin blow past him on a fly pattern down the right side for another score. Cromartie acknowledged his mistake. Milliner vowed to improve.

They will need to patch any and all holes quickly as they vie for a playoff berth.
"The biggest thing for us is bringing our defense on the road," Cromartie said.
Linebacker Calvin Pace shook his head in disbelief as he entered the locker room following the blowout.
"Getting the ball thrown over our head is unacceptable," Pace said. "No. 88 (Goodwin) has world class speed. What else does he do besides run deep? Eleven (Graham), he's a deep threat. Get back."

Athletes and Concussions
Even mild concussions, especially when sustained within a short period of time, can lead to long term effects or disabilities, such as memory loss, diminished senses or mood swings. And while the symptoms of a Grade One concussion disappear within 15 minutes, the brain may not fully heal for a week or longer [source: Wanjek]. A Mayo Clinic study found that a person's risk of developing Parkinson's disease increases by a factor of four after a moderate head injury [source: Mayo Clinic]. The risk goes up greatly with www.chiefsnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-dee-ford-jersey.html more severe head injuries, indicating that head trauma is a contributing factor for some people who develop Parkinson's.
Boxers are notorious for suffering many of the long term effects www.chiefsnflofficialauthentic.com/authentic-phillip-gaines-jersey.html of concussions, particularly because concussion risk increases greatly after a person has already experienced one. Some of these effects have been observed, if not diagnosed or treated, for 80 years [source: ABC News]. Many former boxers experience blackouts, slurred speech, confusion and mood swings.
Athletes often don't tell others about concussions received. Frequently they fear being labeled as lacking heart or losing a starting spot on a team [source: Schwarz]. The problem with reporting concussions Dee Ford Youth Jersey is particularly acute in the NFL. According to a study at the University of North Carolina, the prevalence of depression in NFL players is related to the number of concussions sustained [source: Schwarz]. Among surveyed players who had three or more concussions, 20.2 percent were clinically depressed [source: Schwarz].
On Sept. 30, 2004, former NFL player Justin Strzelczyk died in a car crash at the age of 36 as he fled from police officers in a high speed chase. A post mortem test performed three years later showed that Strzelczyk had brain damage akin to dementia. The diagnosis was chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), also called punch drunk syndrome, boxer's syndrome or dementia pugilistica. Common in boxers, CTE is caused by head trauma, developing on average 16 years after the first head injury [source: About Dementia]. The brain of a patient with CTE shows tangles and threads, such as those found in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. In later stages, CTE patients develop the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
At least three other deceased NFL players have been diagnosed with or showed strong evidence of CTE. Mike Webster, Terry Long and Andre Waters died, respectively, at ages 50, 42 and 44. Long and Waters committed suicide. Waters' brain resembled that of an octogenarian with Alzheimer's disease.
In February 2007, former Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson announced that his health problems, which include symptoms similar to those of early onset Alzheimer's disease, could be traced to concussions sustained in rapid succession as a player. He also said that Patriots coach Bill Belichick had pressured him to play in spite of a trainer's advice. One doctor told the New York Times that Johnson, who was 36 at the time of the announcement, could be in the advanced stages of Alzheimer's disease by his 50s [source: Schwarz].
That May, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell established new rules for dealing with concussions, including better educating players about the injury. The league described plans to develop a system through which players and officials can report if a doctor or coach isn't acting in the best interests of a player's health. The NFL players union created a charitable fund to aid former players suffering from dementia. Players Phillip Gaines Youth Jersey now undergo neuropsychological tests before each season, although each team determines its own rules regarding when players with head injuries can resume activity.

Colin Campbell Talks 'The China Study' Diet
T. Colin Campbell on the benefits of a plant based diet
Here, Dr. Robert Mordkin talks to T. When I started seeing some of the evidence in the laboratory, we started Brandon Linder Youth Jersey eating more salads, dropped red meat, and dropped the dairy probably about 1990. It was a life changer.
How do you see your former diet now? www.officialauthenticjaguars.com/authentic-allen-robinson-jersey.html
I look at three different kinds of dietary systems: One is whole food plant based, the second is animal based foods, and the third is this sort of really odd mixture that we call processed foods. Animal based foods and the processed foods both have a lot of problems.
But meat itself isn't always harmful.
It's kind of a zero sum discussion. That is to say, as you add animal based foods to the diet you're going to basically be subtracting the plant based foods, so it's not possible just to throw in an extra helping of peas or beans or something like that into the traditional diet because we can't accommodate that many calories basically.
Is www.officialauthenticjaguars.com/authentic-brandon-linder-jersey.html there something fundamentally wrong with getting a lot of protein?
The high protein, high fat diet that is customarily consumed by the average American promotes inflammatory reaction; there is no question about that. You see a lot of stuff changing in the immune system [with this diet] and other sorts of things that are associated with inflammation that we tend to be familiar with a risk factor for heart disease as well. A plant based diet if you will, that means fruits and grains that has all the protein we need. As a matter of fact, it's the ideal level of protein.
You essentially advocate a mostly vegan diet. For athletes, too?
A plant based diet with fruits and grains has all the protein we need. I'm friends with Tony Gonzalez, who was going into his 11th season with the Kansas City Chiefs while following my plant based diet. He lost weight and called me up, concerned. But he said he felt great he doesn't have the same pain as the other guys do, he recovers faster, and he's generally healthy. That year he had the most catches, touchdowns, and yards gained in the NFL, breaking. Now he's in his 17th year.
How should someone start transitioning to a plant based diet?
Smoothies are kind of like a stepping stone for those who want to get a start on this. It's not one of the main ways to do things because one of the problems with smoothies is, although they are quite good, people rely on them too much. What happens is that we gulp down these smoothies, and it escapes the first stage of digestion in the mouth. So [the smoothie] ends up in our stomach, in our intestines, and it creates a glycemic burst and that, in turn, has been associated with a higher risk for diabetes. Still, it's a good way to start.
If we're eating a plant based diet, should we take supplements, too?
I was the chief witness in Federal Trade Commission hearings when the courts were judging Allen Robinson Youth Jersey supplement health claims, so I follow the industry closely. It turns out, speaking very broadly, that supplements don't work.

2010 NFL Authentic Blake Bortles Jersey Predictions Week 2
The first week of the NFL season gave the fans a taste of what they have been missing. We saw high scoring games and defensive stances, including the impact of an illogical NFL rule. Since our appetites are now wet, we can look forward to the predictions for Week 2 of the NFL Season. Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons
Though it wasn't pretty last week, the Cardinals earned a victory while the Falcons squandered away a chance to take a game from the depleted Pittsburgh Steelers. The Cardinals' offense needs better balance if they want www.officialauthenticjaguars.com/authentic-blake-bortles-jersey.html a chance to earn a win in Atlanta. The Falcons will bounce back nicely and show why they are a serious playoff contender in 2010.
Though it is early in the season, this meeting between the Bengals and the Ravens could very well determine who will be sitting at home during the playoffs. The Bengals will be eager to move past their poor showing against the Patriots last week and will be ready to take on a hopefully energy spent Ravens team. Do not expect a scoring fest between these two teams.
Prediction Baltimore 17 Cincinnati 10
Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns need to find a way to bounce back from the loss to Tampa Bay during week one when they play host to Kansas City. The Browns offense did a decent job against the Bucs offense but will need to find a way to reduce the third down conversions. The Chiefs are going to have less time to recover from their Monday night game but should have a chance to earn a rare victory in 2010.
Prediction Kansas City 21 Cleveland 14
Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys
The Bears squeaked by with a win last week when they caught a break thanks to the NFL rules being anything but logical. Now they will have the chance to start the season 2 0 when they go up against the Dallas Cowboys. The Bears' offense is still out of whack and that means trouble for Jay Cutler who is going to be harassed all day by the front seven of the Cowboys.
Prediction Authentic Marqise Lee Jersey Dallas 24 Chicago 10
Philadelphia www.officialauthenticjaguars.com/authentic-marqise-lee-jersey.html Eagles at Detroit Lions
Both of these teams suffered hard losses during the opening week of the 2010 NFL season and will be eager to bounce back. As of Sunday night, the status of their starting quarterbacks is still unknown and may end up being a pair of backups, Shaun Hill and Michael Vick, leading the game in Detroit. The Lions fought hard last week but they do not have enough talent match the Eagles.
Prediction Philadelphia 24 Detroit 14
Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers
The Bills, who lost a close one to a division rival last week, will now take on the Packers, a team many experts have picked to reach to Super Bowl XLV. The Bills will need to find a way to improve on their dreadful 3 of 14 third down chances if they want a chance at the upset. The Packers will show their killer instincts this week and will be sure to step on the throat of the Bills when they are up by two scores.
Prediction Green Bay 28 Buffalo 10
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans
This game is going to feature two teams ready to run the ball right at each other and will not give up until the other team breaks. The Steelers and Titans ran for over 345 yards last week and will be prepared to use their feature backs just as much this week. The Steelers defense will be ready for the Titans and shut down Chris Johnson and the running game.
Prediction Pittsburgh 21 Tennessee 16
Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings
This AFC versus NFC game features two teams that rely heavily upon the run and a defense to shoulder part of the load. Dolphins' quarterback Chad Henne needs to be protected from the front seven of the Vikings otherwise it will be a long day for him. We should expect another low scoring affair with the Vikings coming away with their first win of the season.
Prediction Minnesota 17 Miami 13
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers
The Buccaneers got the first win of the season under their belt and will now need to focus on a Panther's team that is still reeling from the loss handed to them by the Giants. The Bucs will need the defense to step up again this week and help produce pivotal turnovers. The Panthers should have an easier time this week developing the run in front of the home crowd.
Prediction Carolina 28 Tampa Bay 10
Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos
The Seahawks surprised just about everybody last week when they manhandled the 49ers at home. Now they will be tested when they travel to Denver to take on the Broncos who are 0 1. The Broncos' secondary needs to shore itself up if they are going to take on Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck who did the most with what the defense offered them.
